This guaranteed them increasing of their fleet, lower price and after building they will be able to sell some of the ships to another company with idea to payback large number of invested money. This was simple strategy, which actually works more than 10 years. But later on, when suddenly hard financial crisis hit the whole economy, the scheme broke and companies got too many cargo anc cruise ships with larger and larger measurements, just like Oasis of the seas - the largest cruise ship built ever.
